Search engine submission is a weird phenomenon. You never really know what is going to happen. Since there is a human element associated with a lot of this you must wait for someone to view the site in a pretty premature form and decide whether you are "in" or "out". Some engines "crawl" your site looking for keywords and description tags and the like. There are whole industries built around positioning you site.
